FS paves way to green, digital future

A number of initiatives and measures aimed at accelerating high-quality development were announced in today’s 2024-25 Budget, with the Government emphasising a move towards a green future and digitalisation.   Explaining that high-quality development spurs ongoing economic innovation and growth whilst conserving the natural environment, Financial Secretary Paul Chan said Hong Kong must pursue opportunities through leveraging its advantages under “one country, two systems”, namely those of enjoying strong support at a national level and being closely connected to other parts of the world.   He stressed that green development involves huge business opportunities and financing needs, as governments and businesses around the world pursue carbon neutrality and green transformation. 101 HIV cases reported

A total of 101 additional cases of HIV infection were reported in the first quarter of the year, the Centre for Health Protection announced today.   Of the new cases, 87 were males and 14 were females, bringing the total number of reported HIV infections to 10,886 since 1984.   Fifty people acquired the virus through homosexual or bisexual contact, while 22 cases acquired the infection by heterosexual contact.   The routes of transmission for 29 cases have yet to be determined.   The centre said sex remains the major mode of HIV transmission and people should use condoms consistently and properly to reduce the risk of acquiring HIV.   There were 24 new cases of AIDS reported in the quarter, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 2,254 since 1985.
