CE visits On Tai Estate

Chief Executive Carrie Lam, accompanied by Secretary for Transport & Housing Frank Chan, today visited On Tai Estate in Kwun Tong, located at a site that was formerly the Anderson Road Quarry.   She learnt about the Housing Department's environmental protection considerations in the construction of public housing in recent years and the progress of various development plans for the site.   The estate was planned and built with the concepts of sustainable development and community engagement.   With a greening ratio of more than 30%, it has plenty of environment-friendly and green installations, as well as many facilities featuring art, the quarry's history and education elements.   During the visit, Mrs Lam viewed the solar pipes that redirect natural daylight to designated areas, a green acoustic barrier, walkways, and a planting area equipped with the zero irrigation system.   She also visited the outdoor exhibition gallery, which showcases the quarry's history and precious natural resources, and its observation deck, an exhibit of an old machine part used at the quarry and other artworks.   Mrs Lam said she was pleased to note that innovative technology of 5D Building Information Modeling was applied and prefabrication was widely used in the design and construction of the estate to enhance efficiency, promote environment protection, and reduce construction time.   The Chief Executive also inspected the Anderson Road Quarry site from the rooftop of a building, where she received an update on the progress of the site's project.   The project covers 11 housing sites, of which eight are for public housing. Two sites have already been sold for private housing and one has been reserved for the pilot project of the second Starter Homes for Hong Kong Residents development.   "With the efforts over the years, we have identified all of the land required for providing public housing units to meet the demand in the coming 10 years, with the re-allocation of sites at the Anderson Road Quarry for public housing development being one of the sources of supply,” Mrs Lam noted.   "The current-term Government will continue to spare no effort to provide land with a multi-pronged approach and roll out various short, medium and long-term initiatives to increase land supply to strive to provide suitable housing for families in different income brackets."
