Vaccination events held for seniors

COVID-19 vaccination events for the elderly in Kwun Tong and Tsuen Wan were held today to enable them to get the jab through a one-stop service covering a health talk, medical consultation and vaccination.   Around 150 people took part in the Kwun Tong vaccination event at Kai Yip Community Hall.   After the event, designated vehicles transferred residents who opted for the Sinovac jab to the community vaccination centre at Kowloon Bay Sports Centre and those who wished to receive the BioNTech vaccine to Hiu Kwong Street Sports Centre.   Meanwhile, the seniors' jab event held at Tsuen Wan Sports Centre attracted about 140 participants.   The Government's outreach vaccination team provided the service to those who chose the Sinovac vaccine at a temporary vaccination area at the sports centre.   Those who opted for the BioNTech vaccine were taken by pre-arranged transport to the community vaccination centre at Tsuen King Circuit Sports Centre.   Secretary for the Civi

COVID-19 vaccination update issued

The Department of Health said as at 8pm on May 30, it received 3,289 reports of adverse events, 21 of which were death cases with vaccination within 14 days before they passed away.   The figures represented 0.14% and 0.0009% of the total vaccine doses administered.       As at May 30, the Expert Committee on Clinical Events Assessment Following COVID-19 Immunisation concluded that six death cases had no causal relationship with vaccination, and preliminarily considered that 15 cases were not associated with vaccination.   The expert committee considered that there is no unusual pattern identified so far, and will continue to closely monitor the situation and collect data for assessment. In the preceding week ending May 30, the department received 183 reports of adverse events following COVID-19 immunisation. No death case was reported by the Hospital Authority involving individuals who had received vaccines within 14 days.   According to information from the authority, during the period from May 3 to 30, the ratio of death cases out of those without a vaccination record was 54.8 cases for every 100,000 people, whereas the ratio of death cases for those with a vaccination record was 2.9 cases for every 100,000 people. The overall death rate is similar to that recorded in the past three years.   Out of those without a vaccination record, the ratio of death cases with acute stroke or acute myocardial infarction was 2.6 cases for every 100,000 people, whereas the ratio of death cases under the same category for those with a vaccination record was 0.4 cases for every 10, 000 people.   Furthermore, the ratio of miscarriage cases out of those without a vaccination record was 25 cases for every 100,000 people, whereas the ratio of miscarriage cases for those who had a vaccination record was 4.2 cases for every 100,000 people.   Based on the statistical analysis of the above figures, there is no evidence that vaccination increases the risk of death or miscarriage for recipients.   The relevant reference statistics will be uploaded to the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme thematic website.       The majority of non-death cases of adverse events received so far are relatively minor ones, details of which can be found here.
