Basketball event gets ‘M’ Mark status
The Major Sports Events Committee today announced that it has awarded “M” Mark status to the FIBA 3x3 Universality Olympic Qualifying Tournament 1, which will be staged in Hong Kong for the first time from April 12 to 14 at Victoria Park. The committee’s Chairman Wilfred Ng said Hong Kong’s successful bid to be host city of the tournament’s first leg is an important milestone for the development of 3x3 basketball in Hong Kong. The event will bring the world’s top 3x3 basketball teams to compete in Hong Kong. More importantly, the Hong Kong, China men’s and women’s 3x3 basketball teams will make history by competing for Olympic qualification at home for the first time, he said. He stressed that the event will promote sports development and showcase Hong Kong’s ability to host world-class sports events. He added that it will add colour and vibrancy to the city, bring in more visitors from abroad and enhance Hong Kong’s position as a centre for major international sports
